Our Story

Thorns & Roseway began as a hobby, an outlet of creativity from the 9-5 day job. Co-founded by Niamh Roseway-Jones and a friend in 2017, T&R soon became much more than a hobby.

T&R is now solely run by Niamh with a little bit of help from her dad, Mr Jones, here and there. What began as printing cards in house has now become a business stocking not just cards but stationery, prints and homewares. Thorns & Roseway proudly supports small and local businesses and aims to use these companies to manufacture their products.

Thorns & Roseway initially started selling products on Etsy, but has now transitioned into their own online store. They still keep their Etsy shop open, but the full range can only be found on this online shop.

Designed in Cornwall, made in the UK.

After gaining a degree in Architecture, Niamh joined a small architectural practice in Cornwall. In early 2017 both friends joined forces to create an outlet where they can design and make - Thorns & Roseway. Niamh had an interest in drawing and painting, whilst her friend enjoyed printmaking and lettering. In late 2017, with the hobby becoming a business, the girls went their separate ways, and T&R found it’s direction in watercolour paintings.

After a busy Christmas season in 2017, Niamh began to extend and grow the business. She began to look into growing the product, seeking small, quality driven companies to partner with. It was out with printing everything in house, and in with huge deliveries and late nights of folding of packing. At the same time, Niamh was trying to build the brand, attending craft fairs and approaching shops. In Summer of 2018, Thorns & Roseway began to be stocked in real life, actual shops.

Niamh went back to university in September 2018 to complete her masters degree in Architecture. Whilst she continues her study, she also continues designing and managing T&R behind the scenes. This is where the free labour of Mr Jones comes in handy. Niamh often shares glimpses of life behind the scenes on the Thorns & Roseway instagram page, you can also keep up to date on new designs and exclusives offers over there.

Now back completing her Part 2 MArch degree in Architecture, Niamh has relocated back to her roots in Staffordshire and splits her time between her home and Oxford.
